Questcor Partners with National Kidney Foundation as National Sponsor of Kidney Walk

HAYWARD, Calif., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOR) today announced that it is partnering with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) to become a National Sponsor of Kidney Walk, the country's largest walk to raise money and awareness for kidney disease.

Through this partnership, Questcor will support more than 85 Kidney Walks across the country. The nationwide series is comprised of community events that call attention to kidney disease and the need for organ donation. More than 100,000 walkers, 6,000 teams and 300,000 donors raise more than $8 million dollars annually to support the NKF's local awareness, prevention and treatment programs.

"Questcor is very pleased to partner with the National Kidney Foundation as a National Corporate Sponsor of Kidney Walk," said Steve Cartt, Questcor's Chief Operating Officer. "As a company, we are committed to serving the needs of kidney patients, their families and the healthcare providers who care for them. Our support of the Kidney Walk helps the Foundation serve its mission to raise awareness of kidney disease and to provide lifesaving programs that directly impact kidney patients and their families."

According to NKF, kidney disease annually kills more people than breast and prostate cancer combined. One in three American adults — 73 million — is at risk due to high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney failure. More than 26 million people in the U.S. already have kidney disease and most don't know it.

"The Kidney Walk is not only a fundraiser, but a tool to generate awareness and drive prevention in major cities and communities throughout the U.S.," said Krystn Kuckelman, the National Walk Program Director. "Questcor's support will help us reach the millions who are at risk of developing kidney disease."

Mr. Cartt added, "The NKF is on the front lines when it comes to raising awareness of kidney disease and advocating for kidney patients. Questcor is very proud to support this effort as well as other important initiatives of NKF."
